This past Sunday I went to Barnes & Noble and quicky riffled through the latest issue of Vogue Italia. I was completely taken aback when I saw this photograph of a model wearing a Conway pink shopping bag as a headpiece! I tried to guess who the stylist was before I even looked at the credits.. was it Joe McKenna, Patti Wilson, Edward Enniful, who was it? I couldn't keep guessing, I just had to know who the culprit was so i flipped to the credits page and lo and behold, the stylist for this Steven Meisel shoot was the irreverent Karl Templer! The shoot, aptly titled "Fashion Bailout" pokes fun at the current status of the fashion industry. Seems we've gone from shopping at Alessandro Dell'Aqua (whom closed his NYC store recently) to shopping at Conway's on 34th Street due to our flailing economy. LOL. And while scrutinizing the story I thought to myself, why not wear everything I own, all at once? I mean, I paid for it, right? These are my favorite shots below..notice the Conway shopping bag in every shot?
I consider this editorial to be quite a masterpiece and we can't forget that the bad boy of photographers, Steven Meisel, is behind this work of art. Always breaking barriers and and gladly sharing his vision and perspective with fashion fanatics. BTW, did you guys see him photographed in this month's American Vogue? I was very surprised that, he who is so mysterious and who purposely hides from the media, would even agree to pose for a shoot nonetheless for an American magazine such as Vogue....very interesting. The guy looks 20 and he's pushing 50! Implausible!
Lastly, a brief background on Stylist Karl Templer: currently the right-hand man of Francisco Costa at Calvin Klein. He's been key in streamlining the look of the brand, from the runway to its edgy advertisement campaigns. Karl's work has graced the pages of Vogue Italia, W and V and in addition to styling uber celebs, he's also the ex editor-in-chief at Arena Homme and was the former Creative Director at Interview.
PS: Jules, of Styleanthem, boldly posted a few shots of this editorial on her blog yesterday and I wrote to her saying how she is one step ahead of me everytime! I meant to blog about this amazing story yesterday but she had already posted it. Shout out to her for staying on top of cutting edge stories!
