Friday:Zara faux fur vest & studded belt and mom's vintage boots.
 
 
Saturday: Zara Balmain jacket and suede booties and DIY jeans.
  
 
Sunday: In front of our flat, F21 top and leggings, Kangol beanie authentic tribal scarf from Yemen (where my hubby's family hail from.)
 

What To Do In Edinburgh?

After reading Haute World's amazing blog I just had to run to Armstrong's super cool vintage store and I was not dissappointed! Thank you Haute World!

Fortunately, for me, Edinburgh's having its annual Fringe Festival. It's the largest festival in the world! Pretty much you get tons of interesting acts, everything from circus performances to grass roots bands. Theatre, comedy, dance, it's all here, all day long up and down the streets and in venues! Here are just a few snaps on High Street.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the flat we're staying in, it's been quiet and quite relaxing. Especially the rusltling of the leaves at night we hear through the bedroom window. Heres the view of the bedroom and livingrooms.

PS: Shopping's expensive here, darn it, so I got my fix from overseas, LOL. I really couldn't resist this Bebe Balmain knockoff, looks just like the pic in our header. Gonna ad some shoulder pads and presto!

10 true things about Maury

1. Got braces as an adult...just took them off like a year ago.

2. Had my own high end lingerie company called "Vagin Pouvoir" translates to "Vagina Power" and sold all over the world.

3. Lived in Florence, Italy to study architecture...amazing and enriching experience.

4. I am a hopeless romantic and believe in true love. Consider myself very passionate and loving. 

5. Growing up I used to be love running, rollerblading and breakdancing..maybe that is where I got my athletic legs from! Now, I love practicing boxing and love to watch football.

6. I used to be the biggest townboy and wait till my dad went to work so I can wear his size 38' pants when my waist was about 22'.

7. I have a very big big family. Before my dad married my mom he had 8 kids from 2 previous marriages then had 6 kids with my mom. I am the oldest from my mom side and the youngest is 12. My dad had 14 kids in total, talk about not watching tv...lol.

8. If I didn't pursue a career in fashion, I wanted to become a brain surgeon. 

9. I almost died when I was born and for my family to keep me alive, they had to sell a lot of their land in the Dominican Republic to pay for my hospital bills.

10. I am a workaholic and a perfectionist 

Girls Night out at Nobu

Maury and I had were treated to an amazing dinner at NY's popular Japanese restaurant Nobu by an incredibly charming fellow, who will remain anonymous per his request. Charming conversation and incredible food gave way to tons of laughter and super fun vibe!

We enjoyed a myriad of appetizers but our favorite was the Rock Shrimp Tempura with Spicy Sauce.

Kyoto- Mascarpone mouse with green tea matcha sponge, frozen chocolate powder and chocolate Rocher gelato. This dessert was designed to liken Japan's Mount Fuji as seen from the outskirts of Kyoto. Pretty cool, huh?

Sueno- Pineapple cremoso coconut soaked tres leches sponge and coconut sage foam.

It was a terribly hot night and we tried to dress loose and comfy. Gisela wore an F21 ripped tank, Zara harem pants she scored on sale for $15 and Givenchy shoes.

This is my "what an idiot" face after realizing I left my silver knuckle ring at Nobu. I managed to recover it next day.

Maury, fresh off of work, wore a AA chambray men's button-down, her favorite Herve Leger skirt and Azzedine Alaia gladiator heels with Jimmy Choo Ramona Motorcycle Bag.

Close-up of our accessories. On Gisela's hand: YSL rhinestone ring purchased at the YSL outlet at Woodbury commons and Buddha ring from Aldo accessories. On Maury: marcasite cocktail ring purchased in Chinatown and various bracelets from our new favorite recessionista spot, Charlotte Russe.

We had a great time, so much so that by the end of the night, Maury was jumping for joy!

Gisela's Saturday on 5th Avenue

This is what I wore Saturday on my "day off." Hubby took baby to Brooklyn and I stayed behind for some good ol' me time.. I'm not a shorts person by any means but I saw this adorable "Skort" at F21 and I figured it'd be perfect for summer and fall..I paired them with an AA tank, JC Ann Tie boots, Raybans and Chanel jumbo.

Strolling on 5th ave I decided to see if the Burberry store had those awesome fw09 platform lace up booties I want but unfortunately the sales clerk said they're not in yet but would call me once they are..sigh.. So I headed to Barney's to check out my second choice... the Alexander Wang booties. I tried on a few pairs. I snuck some pics on my blackberry, sorry about the quality :-(

Right now I'm still undecided until I try on the Burberry boots but I would definitely not get the last pair, the ones you have to lace up and tie yourself, too much trouble. The others had zippers in the back, much easier.

I had to take a pic of this graceful woman sporting a marvelous hat that Schiaparelli herself would be proud of.
 

Afterwards, I stopped at the Zara on 5th and picked up this knock-out Balmain inspired jacket! Only one left , and it was my size, lucky me!!

Also checked out H&M, which I haven't been too in a while since I spend my time at both F21 and Zara, but I picked up one of their FW09 dresses. Planning on stuffing the sleeves with some tulle I have.. maybe..

As you can probably guess, Maury and I are over the moon about the Barney's Warehouse sale finally starting this Thursday! This is where Maury and I get most of our gems. Check out the info below for dates and times..

Reunited and it Feels So Good!

Finally Maury had a day off and she came to visit me! yippee! We hung out at the pool, sipped on smoothies and then hit the mall. Soon we shall show you our goodies but in the meantime, enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Thank Goodness for Goodwill!

Itchin' to spend the money I've made on ebay..I'm fighting the urge big time! Mainly by staying home, lol. But...yesterday I had to go visit my family in The Heights and I decided to take a walk around the neighborhood.. ended up at Goodwill Industries where I found a couple of things..

Got this lame, silver metallic button-down.. and these perfect-fitting leather pants. I thought I'd throw them on together along with my Miu Miu over-the-knee boots to see what happens.. I think it works!

and on Rachel Bilson..

Also scooped up these Liz Clairborne poly cropped trousers and paired them with Theory cropped tuxedo blazer, Victoria's Secret lingerie top and Manolo Blahnik for Rachel Roy gladiators.


Even though the trousers are poly, they look like silk and can fool anyone..

And you won't believe how much I spent! I told the cashier to just charge me for the $10 leather pants  because I didn't want the lame top and trousers but he was too busy talkin' up a storm he just put everything in the bag after I handed him the money..LOL! What's a girl to do..

Feelin' Like A Biker Chic Today

Quick post guys!
Hot-ass weather in NYC today, 97 degrees! And that's the worst thing that can happen to someone who hasn't shaved her legs in a while and is in need of a pedi asap,. LOL. It's hard doing simple things like that when you have a toddler..Anywho.. I wore an Urban Outfitters pocket tee, a pair of acid washed jeans I bought in The Heights for $10 and my new Nine West booties from their new "Vintage American Collection" that I found at Macy's.

I saw the booties on displayed and they caught my eye. From the get go they looked comfy. I decided to jazz them up a bit by painting the hardware gold.. I wouldn't even call this a DIY, it literally took me minutes..

Now I'm thinking of adding some chains..gold ones..maybe??

Oh, and one more thing, cool-ass Kinder featured my closet on Closet Disorder today, yippee! I submitted my photos and gave lil' snippet on what my closet's made up of..I strongly suggest you visit and submit photos of your closet, I for one would love to know what they all look like!

Gisela Styles her Emporio Armani 70's Pants

I'm so thrilled Maury finally got a break from her hectic life to do a a beautiful posting for us! She's been wanting to post forever but she's is seriously the busiest woman I've ever met and extremely hard-working. She's got some free time this weekend and she's gonna post some of her wickedest shoes! Can't wait..

In the meantime, I've been wondering how to style these Emporio Armani pants I recently purchased and I found one way to do it so far. Got this F21 off-the-shoulder sweater top and sun hat by Jessica Simpson. I kinda liked how the worn leather straps of the hat hang down on my shirt like a necklace :-)

Ever since I saw Jane from  Sea of Shoes wearing that floppy headpiece, I've been literally obsessed with how wonderfully retro and sexy it looks on her.

And check out bad-ass model Kemp Muhl, along with Yoko and John Lennon's son Sean, sporting hers on the streets of Paris.

I may trade in all my ebay money for a  luxurious Mediterranean cruise this fall instead of indulging on an expensive pair of boots like I mentioned to you guys in a previous post. If everything goes according to plan, I shall be wearing this outfit on the in the sunny Isle of Capri!! The only other catch is I can't spend a dime! My hubby said that will make the difference in weather we go on a luxury cruise or carnival.. yikes!!! lool! I'm trying, God knows I'm trying!

So I mentioned to Maury a few days ago about this craze going on over the Brazilian Keratin Treatment. For those of you not familiar with it, its a hydrating protein treatment (with or without formaldehyde) that coats the hair shaft and leaves it frizz free, pin straight and brilliant for about 3-4 months. Halle Berry and Lindsey Lohan swear by it and I was ready to jump on the $300 and up band wagon until I went to my fellow Dominican hairdresser in the Heights yesterday. She offers it too and I was about to schedule a session but after she finished with my hair I said to her, if you do my hair like this all the time, why in the world would I need a BKT! She washed, cut, set, blow-dried and flat ironed my hair for only $28. I mean it doesn't get any better than that!

What Maury Wore Today

NYC weather this week has been very humid and on days like this you just feel like being naked and wear as little as possible. Well, I wanted to wear one of my new purchases.  I purchased this dress at  El Mundo (translates to "THE WORLD") which is like a discounted department store in Washington Heights and in the Bronx that carries closeout merchandise from stores like Bloomingdales, Loehmanns, Macys and even Barneys. They have a chain of them and my mom has been addicted to this store for quite sometime, I of course followed her lead. Gisela and I have been avid shoppers at El Mundo for years but we had a lot of months without visiting. Well, let me tell you I found some pretty cool stuff this past weekend which I will post as I wear them out. Today I wore the See by Chloe dress I bought for 12 bucks...yes $12. Talk about a little deal! So I was really happy to find this dress which is made in a very pretty printed floral silk that reminds me of Dries Van Noten last Spring Collection with the amazing floral prints. This is just one of the purchases I made at EL MUNDO. I will post the things I bought as I wear them. From an Amazing Halston Jumpsuit a la  Bianca Jagger in Studio 64 time, to a timeless draped Grecian black dress Isabel Toledo designed for Anne Klein, to a beautiful White tutu from Oscar de la Renta which Gisela is going to help me style...and many many more!

Wearing See by Chloe Dress, VIntage Studded Belt I bought in Italy, and Ash Gladiator Sandals.
I love my new gladiator leather sandals I got at Century 21 with the gold platted studs. They are designed by ASH and are called Mystic Ankle Wrap Sandals. These were the last in the store so I was excited to find them in my size! If you like them Endless.com sells them for $335.

I got these CASADEI Earth Sasso boots at El Mundo too for a mere $65!!!! Retail price was $990 so I was extremely elated to get them for so cheap! They rise pass the knees and are so comfortable. I love the chain detail in the back. I will be wearing these to death this winter. They have a slight equestrian feel to it but with an edge and that is what I love about them. I love it when designers juxtapose different elements and make it their own! Great job Casadei! You can also fold them down so they have multiple ways to style them.

 

 

Last but not least, I found these Givenchy boots at Loehmanns like 2 months ago and haven't had a chance to wear them yet. They actually remind me of the new Giuseppe Zanotti Buckle boots he designed for Balmain for Fall 09.

However, mine don't have as many buckles, but I still love them and I am enamored with the taupe color! I have so many purchases that I still haven't posted because my time is so limited, but soon I am going to welcome you into my closet and show you some exciting new things! Thanks so much for bearing with me and being patient! Also, many thanks for giving Gisela and I so much love and attention. By the way, the apt renovations are looking great and I just bought the wooden floors for the room that I will convert into a walk in closet. So excited :)
